Fans of the Month!
Interviewed by Kayt

This month we have a special treat, an entire ensemble of belly dancers as Fans of the Month! They are four young ladies in the Seattle area who love dancing and helping to entertain fans at Red Elvises shows when Our Favorite Band plays in their area. Let's get to know them! Please join me in welcoming Saroya, Circe, Sian and Nikki!

Three of the Babylonian Ensemble For the record, what are your names?
We are The Babylonian Ensemble. Saroya Poirier, Circe Wiggins, Sian Lane and Nikki Wiggins.

Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
We are all Washington [state] natives, and all were raised in and around the Seattle area.

What were your main interests, entertainment and otherwise, growing up? Any obsessions you don't mind people knowing about?
Our list...not in any particular order:
Dance, music and The Red Elvises, of course!

Then, in addition to the group list, here are the individual ones:
Saroya - Vampires
Circe - Aiden (Rock Group her son Nick Wiggins is in), punk rock, drama, art
Sian - Writing, animals, dressage, sewing
Nikki - Reba McIntyre, Marina Siritis

Tell us about your musical endeavors and any musical instruments you play…
We actually wrote a rap song called 'The Rappin Babs.' It was a huge hit at a small event.

Circe sang and danced with the Seattle Banjo Band all over the place, including Spain. She played accordian and banjo. She and Sian danced together doing can-can, charleston, jazz, tap, Hawaiian, Tahitian and Maori.

Besides finger cymbals with the dance, we learned to play doumbek, which Sian continued for a while. And Sian played piano and violin when young.

Interviewer's Interjection: A doumbek, according to Wikipedia, is a goblet shaped hand drum used in Arabic, Assyrian, Persian, Balkan, Armenian, Azeri and Turkish music. Just in case some of us didn't know, so you don't have to leave here to look it up...

What accomplishments are you most proud of at this point in your life?
All - Mediterranean Fantasy Festival and dance careers.
Circe and Sian - friends for forty years, Certified Herbalists, Wiccan and proud
Saroya - raised grandaughter
Circe - raised 3 great kids

Saroya - Lion in Winter, anything ghost or vampire (is the red applicable here?)

Saroya - Laurell K. Hamilton, Jane Austin
Sian - anything Stephen King, Janet Evanovich - The Stand, Lisey's Story, River God (Wilbur Smith) and The Seventh Scroll

What music are you into, in addition to Red Elvises?

Saroya - Celine Dion, Dean Martin
Sian - The Doors, The Beatles, Bob Seger, Tom Petty, Don Henley, Glenn Frye, Celine and anything Middle Eastern, Hawaiian or Celtic.

When, where, how, etc. did you first hear and experience Red Elvises?
Our ex-litter mate heard them playing in the cafeteria at the college she attended in New Mexico. Must have been 1997? She just knew the music was perfect for us. We was da foist as far as we know to have a complete choreographed routine to "I Want To See You Bellydance."

About how many times have you seen them?
Whenever they're in Seattle!!

What is it about Red Elvises that draws you to them, that you like the most?
The music is fun, guys are depraved and perverted, are super entertaining to watch and listen to... and that is one big fu#%**^ bass, man!

What's the farthest you've traveled to see them? And do you have a good story around that?
Well must have been.. let's see, 10 miles? But man, we had to park, like, six blocks away.

Which show is your favorite of the RE shows you've seen?
The first one. Maybe '97 or '98? Phoenix Underground. But hey, we're old and our memories are... What were we talking about?

Any other standout, all time great Red Elvises memories so far?
Red suit, bare buns, and yeah, that big ol' fu@#$%^ bass.

What are your favorite Red Elvises songs?
Well, first hasta be "Istanbul" and "I Wanna See You Bellydance." But going down the list, Voodoo Doll, Sad Cowboy Song...

What would you like to see them do in the future? Any ideas? Anything you’d like to say to the band?
We'd like to see them: tour with Aiden. Play at our Festival (for free...) Marry one of our daughters.
Ideas: Play for us while we perform our choreography.
We'd like to say to them: "Do you really like borsht?"

Okay, last question… Do you have anything you’d especially like to say to all the fans?
Red Elvises KICK ASS! and we're pretty cool, too.
