When Fans and Bands Meet
by Kayt
Our very own former Fan of the Month (March 2007), Helen, of Tampa, Florida, had a close encounter of the Red Elvises kind, a real and fun and really fun band meet 'n greet complete with photographic evidence, so we thought we'd share.
Helen came to the June 2nd Skipper's Smokehouse show in Tampa with her mom. After all, Helen is only fifteen years old, even though she's a smart, savvy fifteen-year-old with great taste in music. Her mom is very nice too; I talked with her by the merchandise table and advised her on which CD to buy Helen - 30 Greatest Hits, of course! What red-blooded American teenager wouldn't want all of Red Elvises' hits! Helen was in front of the stage most of the night and that's where I first saw her. Here she is with my friend Rebecca from Key West. Helen's the one in the red hat. My goodness, couldn't these girls cheer up just a little? I mean, they are at a Red Elvises show and all...(heh heh).
The first thing she said to me was "Your hair's not red any more." Well...um...oops! Looks like I need to put red hair dye on my shopping list pretty soon! Ah, the honesty of youth.
During the break and after the show too Helen got herself backstage somehow with the mission of getting her CD signed by all the band members. I felt it my civic duty to introduce her to each of them and help her get her photo taken with each one too, if we could manage to catch each one of them while they were running around, drinking beer, changing clothes and doing other things bands do backstage. So we were two females on a mission, and Rebecca helped out too. Together we were unstoppable!
The first one we got to pose for a picture was Oleg, always happy to mug for the camera.
Then it was Elena's turn!
Then it was time to capture Adam...on digital camera, anyway!
We never did manage to get Beth alone (she's so social!) but a group picture of Helen with her, Elena and Rebecca turned out very nice.
And last but certainly not least, we snagged Igor just before they went back onstage. Armed with towel and handy beer, he took a moment to pose with Helen, who was by now quite happy to have had her picture taken with everyone in the band.
Helen said "Thank you! Thank you!" lots of times and couldn't seem to stop smiling! I was glad to be able to help her out. That was a lot of fun! Let's all congratulate Helen (on myspace she's "Helen Wheels") and wish her many more happy times with Red Elvises!
