Red Elvises in Vancouver!
July 9, 2006

So if you weren’t there you missed an unbelievable show! They played at the Railway Club on July 9, 2006. It was a little slow because they didn’t play till an hour after they announced they would, but we all got drunk and waited around anyways. That shows how much Vancouver loves them. There weren’t too many people there at the beginning, but once they got ready to go on stage, it was crowded!
I went with my friend, Connie Ng, and we haven’t seen them in a few years, but kept in touch with them on the net. It was funny bebecause when Oleg walked by me, he asked me “How was Avi’s fan club doing?” and smiled at me. I didn’t think they would remember me.
I was outside smoking while I waited for them to get ready on stage and I was talking to a few people. There was a group of us talking about where we met them and how we wanted to get more friends out. It was great to hear what others thought.
Finally, they got up on stage in their costumes where they looked like cats. Everyone was happy and excited when they got up on stage.
They started the night out with “I’m Not That Kind of Guy” and it was funny because whenever they said “to die” Igor made us say it with him and flick our fingers with him.
The crowd finally got right up by the stage by their next set. There was a bunch of drunken girls dressed in old dresses, so I’m not too sure who they were. They were cool, unfortunately they took up the whole front of the stage, so it was hard to see the guys now and then. They also knocked over the equipment throughout the show, but at least they were cheering on our boys! One girl threw a slip to Igor and he put it around his neck. It was awesome!! Igor was really into it trying to get people to boogie as he said it and eventually everyone did. It’s hard not to listen to him, he’s so funny. The next song they did was “200 Flying Girls” and everyone was dancing by then. We were also all drunk by then as well.
The song they sang next was “Telephone Call from Istanbul.” Igor was funny, he kept saying that they “sound better if you drink more.” So he continued with “do something with your life, get drunk.” So we did. The next song they played was “Gypsy Heart” and a few couples and other people danced too. The next song was a newer one to me called “Love Rocket” but I loved it. Everyone was cheering on Oleg, it was great. I love his guitar!
The next sets of songs were: “Ticket to Japan,” “Strip Joint is Closed” and “Sad Cowboy Song,” where my friend and I joined in the conga line. Lots of people joined in and we all ended up in different places. It was so much fun!
Then they ended their first set with their popular song “I Want to See You Belly Dance.” They even had a gypsy dressed up and dancing onstage, it was so magical. Then they took a fifteen minute break.
I met some Red Elvises fans from Seattle who were selling the merchandise. They were so nice and it was funny because Oleg walked by and the guy told him “This is your biggest fan.” Then Oleg smiled and said “Yes, she is! I know.” So he got his friend to take a photo of us and Igor walked by so we got him in the picture too.
Unfortunately I didn’t have any room left on my tape recorder, so I can’t remember all the songs they played next. They did however, play “Rocket Man” and a few of us were cheering. By the end, we were cheering so loud for them, they did three encores! It was amazing to see the feedback they got from everyone! It was totally a wonderful night to fall in love (I know they sang that song for sure) and I think everyone who was there did because everyone bought a Red Elvises shirt that was there.
Band for that night: Igor Yuzov (guitar), Oleg Bernov (bass) and I believe the rest of the guys were Roman Dudok (saxes and flute), Aaron Arntz (keyboard and accordion) and Adam Gust (drums).
If I am wrong with any of those names, sorry but it’s been a while since I’ve seen them and it's hard to make out all their names.
Close enough for Rokenrol, Mary, good job!!
Thanks guys for A Wonderful night!
