Fan of the Month!
Interviewed by Kayt

Our Fan of the Month for September is a cool girl from Massachusetts who traveled six hours from her home to see Red Elvises at Musikfest in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and wore her specially made "Flying Girl" shirt for the occasion. She also loves animals and has a lot of other cool interests. Help me welcome Andrea, better known as Andy, to Fan of the Month greatness...

Andy posing with Igor For the record, what is your name?
Andy Brodeur

Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in Concord, Massachusetts

What were your main interests, entertainment and otherwise, growing up?
I'm studying to be a vet, so when I'm not at work with sick animals, I might be radio-tracking rare turtles in a swamp or feeding injured birds of prey, or something else bizarre.
Other than that, I was a fencer in college, and I think I might be a little too obsessed with the game Dance Dance Revolution. Oh, and the Red Sox. And obscure British TV shows, like Brasseye and the IT Crowd, and weird American ones, like Aqua Teen.

Tell us about your musical endeavors and any musical instruments you play…
I've played trombone since elementary school...most recently I played bass trombone in a jazz group.

What accomplishments are you most proud of at this point in your life?
It might seem like a boring-sciency thing, but I'm getting a paper published in a veterinary magazine.

Interviewer's note: That doesn't sound boring to me at all, that's cool!

What are your favorite movies?
I'm LOVING the new installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Other than that, I'd say Robin Hood Men in Tights, Sin City, Supertroopers, Usual Suspects.

Do you have any favorite books?
Stiff, Lolita, Heart of a Dog, Molecular Biology of the Cell, that sort of thing.

What music are you into, in addition to Red Elvises?
Danko Jones is currently my 2nd favorite.

When, where, how, etc. did you first hear and experience Red Elvises?
At a friend's birthday party in high school, we watched Six String Samurai. They had me at "Lovepipe."

About how many times have you seen them?
Six

What is it about Red Elvises that draws you to them, that you like the most?
I wish I knew! Like I said, it was love at first..chord...and I still get excited every time I listen to their music. The live shows are certainly a big part of it as well. They have fantastic stage presence and are great about talking to fans afterwards, even if those fans are completely plastered and convinced they would make great roadies (overheard at Musikfest).

What’s the farthest you’ve traveled to see them? And do you have a good story around that?
Every time I've seen them it's taken at least six hours to get there, although that trend will end this fall when they play in Allston, MA. I went to school at Vassar in NY, so I would travel to Boston to see shows. But now I am back in Massachusetts, and I went down to Musikfest, which takes about 6 hours. It's always well worth it.

Which show is your favorite of the Red Elvises shows you've seen?

My first Musikfest was incredible, because I had only seen the Red Elvises play in bars. But at Musikfest, there were hundreds of people crammed into that tent. I love the pictures taken from the back of the crowd of everyone doing "Sex in Paradise"...Igor could get that crowd to do whatever he wanted.

Any other standout memories from Red Elvises shows you've seen?
Probably the second time I saw them play in Boston. Oleg pulled me and my friend Carmel onstage for Belly Dance and put me on top of his bass amp. It was pretty fantastic.

What are your favorite Red Elvises songs?
My current favorites are the live versions of "Jerry's Got a Squeezebox" and "My Love is Killing Me."

What would you like to see them do in the future? Any ideas? Anything you’d like to say to the band?
I just want them to play in the northeast as much as they can! Guys--please don't ever stop playing, because I look forward to your shows like nothing else. If you do need to stop touring, please invest in robot replicas that can play all your songs.

Okay, last question… Do you have anything you’d especially like to say to all the fans?
Play Red Elvises music for everyone you know! This band IS the best, and you know it.
