Fan of the Month!
Interviewed by Kayt
Our Fan of the Month for August is a rocking girl from Canada who shares a photo with us of herself and her friend Connie taken when they saw Red Elvises at the Railway Club on July 9, 2006. Mary's the one wearing the Red Elvises t-shirt. I think she expresses best why she deserves to be a Fan of the Month: "I think u should make me the fan of the month 'cause I love these guys so much! I also have them on my radio show site (check it out at www.locals.bravehost.com and on my podcast as well. On top of that I am the one who made the Avi Sills fan club on Yahoo, thanks for adding it under your links." You heard it here, folks, this girl LOVES Red Elvises! So join me in welcoming our very happy and enthusiastic August 2006 Red Elvises Fan of the Month...

For the record, what is your name?
Mary L Martin
Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
Vancouver, BC
What were your main interests, entertainment and otherwise, growing up?
I am obsessed over music, local talent, The Phantom of
the Opera, sports and Elvis. So you can see why I’m a
red fan.

Tell us about your musical endeavors and any musical instruments you
play… Well I host, manage and operate my own radio show and
you can check it out at www.locals.bravehost.com
I'm really into the music scene, but can't play any
instruments. I can play a bit of piano by memory, but
not much.
What accomplishments are you most proud of at this point in your life?
My radio show and helping local artists. Meeting the
Red Elvises.
What are your favorite movies?
? “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Dude
Where’s My Car,” “Eight Men Out” and “Phantom of The Opera.”
Do you have any favorite books?
The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux and
anything on Elvis.
What music are you into, in addition to Red Elvises?
I love all types of music but rap.
When, where, how, etc. did you first hear and experience Red
Elvises?
Well my class in high school got to be a guest to sit
in on the Vicki Gabereau show in 1999. I fell in love
with them from the start and so did my classmates.
All the guys were jealous of them because in music
class, all the girls would copy all the moves they did
on the show. Till this day there are two of us who are
still diehard Red Elvises fans.
We didn’t get to meet them in person at the taping, but
I went to Seattle the following week to see them and
meet ex-drummer, Avi Sills.
After that I’ve been a fan of his and the band since.
About how many times have you seen them?
Four
What is it about Red Elvises that draws you to them, that you like the most?
Before I even met the band, their name caught my eye
because I am an Elvis fan and I have to say Igor does
the best Elvis moves I’ve ever seen! As well as the
big red guitar that Oleg uses, caught my eye with his
lovely smile as well.
To tell you the truth though, it was Avi that got me
into them because he is so hot!
After I met them all, it was their sense of humor
that has kept me a fan even after Avi moved on to
another band.
What’s the farthest you’ve traveled to see them? And do you have a good
story around
that?
Seattle and not really. The best part was getting to see them and that’s how I
met Avi.
Which show is your favorite of the Red Elvises shows you've seen?
Seeing them play live on the Vicki Gabereau show in
1999. They were so funny and they were so
entertaining, my friend and I still copy their moves
when we listen to them or see them live.
Any other standout memories from Red Elvises shows you've seen?
My best Red stand out was in 1999.
I was excited to see them again after my trip to
Seattle, but they started earlier than announced, so I
ended up missing their performance.
Avi saw me waiting in line and remembered me, so he
gave me a hug and their "Better Than Sex" CD since I
missed seeing them.
It was so worth it, waiting in line even though I
missed the show because he was so sweet.
What are your favorite Red Elvises songs?
“Rocket Man,” “Harriet,” “I Wanna See You Belly Dance,”
“Wonderful Night,” “Love Pipe,” “Jerry’s Got the Squeeze
Box” and lots more!
What would you like to see them do in the future? Any ideas? Anything you’d
like to say to the band?
I would love to see them go on tour with Avi’s
new band, Naked Rythm because I know they’re all still
friends and there music is also kinda similar.
Would like to say to the band:
Yes. I love you guys! Whenever I am down, I always
play your music and it gets me dancing. I would love
to see other bands with your humour, but there aren’t too
many. Keep up the good work and come back to Vancouver
soon! XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO
Okay, last question… Do you have anything you’d especially like to say to
all the fans?
Yes. The best way to support a band is to keep telling
everyone you know about them. Word of mouth is the
best advertisement and even if they don't like them or
that kind of music, they might remember the name and
tell someone else they know who does. So keep telling
people about Red Elvises!!!!
...Thank you very much, Mary, for being Fan of the Month! I hope you get to see Red Elvises at many many more shows in the future! Keep rocking with the Reds!!
