Confessions from Petaluma, Revisited
(Originally run in November 1st issue)
Update By Kayt
At the Petaluma show in October 2005, Janine and her friend got themselves signed by Our
Favorite Band! At the time Janine didn't have the photo of them posing with Oleg and their ink,
but since that time this photo has finally fallen into the right hands (We
at The Red Pages have ways of getting what we want...heh heh!) and now we are able
to share it in all its glory!
Below is the original article and photo to refresh your memories of the event...
Confessions from Petaluma
By Janine
I often read about these experiences, but I never thought I'd be writing about one of my
own.....
We've been Red Elvises regulars for the past 5+ years and always make sure to bring a few
"virgins" whenever they come to town. Every time we go to their show, we have just a bit more
contact with the Red Elvises (last year, I had the band sign a birthday card for my brother,
who'd initially turned us on to them -- he missed the show because he was in Europe on his
honeymoon). As always, Igor, Oleg, et al were very gracious and my brother was thrilled with
his birthday present (the card was the pinnacle, but I bought him a shirt and CD, too).
THIS time, after a few glasses of wine, my friend had a great idea. After a few more glasses,
she'd become good friends with the bartender and got him to find her a Sharpie pen.
After the show, we followed the band backstage and had them autograph our BOOBS! (Ahem....
Strictly, of course, because we couldn't find a piece of paper). Our poor husbands watched the
backstage door close behind us and waited around worrying. Our fellas are fabulous guys, but
really, they're no Igor and Oleg.
My friend and I decided that we PROBABLY won't try to top that next year. As it was, when we
eventually left the Mystic (pretty late for a Sunday night), we all piled into the car and as
thrilled as we were, she and I found it difficult to do cartwheels in a SUV, especially with
pouting husbands (by the way, they were both...ummm..."intrigued" by wives that were inked up
by their Favorite Band!). That's not too telling, is it?
The next day, we reluctantly scrubbed off the ink and have nothing to show for our awesome Red
Elvises experience. Oleg had insisted on a photo, but Roman's digital camera was full. Ever the gentleman, Unsteady Freddie had offered up his old fashioned film camera to capture the moment.
Freddie's following the next few shows (Oregon +), so it may be a while before he hits a
One-Hour-Photo and does a submission to the fanzine.
Can't wait to show off some ink...
It's true, these girls truly could not wait to show off their ink! So, in a last minute photo addition
to satisfy your curiosity, here they are at a friend's house:
