Fan of the Month!
Interviewed by Kayt
For June we have a Fan of the Month who has experienced Red Elvises in two
states...no, not the states of drunk and sober, but Texas and California! Below
is a photo of him with some members of his favorite band!
For the record, what is your name?
Derrick Amoriko
Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
I was born in Columbus, Ohio but I lived in Louisiana and Austin, Texas most of my life.
What were your main interests, entertainment and otherwise,
growing up? Any obsessions you don’t mind people knowing about?
About the only thing I was obsessed about was leaving Louisiana.
Tell us about your musical endeavors and any musical instruments you play.
I’m not so musical now but I played piano and sang.
What accomplishments are you most proud of at this point in your life?
Having good friends and a career that I love.
What are your favorite movies?
Blue Velvet and Moulin Rouge.
Do you have any favorite books?
Stupid White Men and comic books.
What music are you into, in addition to Red Elvises?
Jerm Pollet (he plays punk campfire songs), Elizabeth McQueen (who I’m in love with)
and Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys (they play some mean rockabilly).
When, where and how did you first hear and experience Red Elvises?
Back in the beginning of 2000, when I was living in Austin, I was dating this Russian
chick and wanted to impress her with something Russian in Austin (not an easy task) so I
looked on citysearch and found out that the Red Elvises would be playing the night of our
date so I surprised her with the show at the Continental.
About how many times have you seen them?
I think I have seen them around 12 times, three of which were this year.
What is it about Red Elvises that draws you to them, that
you like the most?
It has to be the energy they put into each of their shows. I have never seen a bad
one and I have seen many lineup changes.
What’s the furthest you’ve traveled to see them? And
do you have a good story around that?
I traveled 1,400 miles by car to catch a show in Austin after I just saw them a week
before in Santa Monica…sorry, no story but a great show.
Which show is your favorite out of all the RE shows you've seen?
The show at Rusty’s in April only because the after party was a blast.
Any other standout, all time great memories of shows
you’ve seen so far?
Their show in Austin last November, I had a perfect day with someone that was very
special to me and that night we drank margaritas then went to the Red Elvises had the
greatest night of our lives after the show….well I will just leave it at we had a wonderful
time.
What are your favorite Red Elvises songs?
"Strip Joint is Closed," "Please Don't Tell Me What I did Last Night" and "Love Rocket."
What would you like to see them do in the future? Any
ideas? Anything you'd like to say to the band?
Just keep playing and I will keep bringing new people to the show.
Okay, last question…Do you have anything you’d especially like to
say to all the fans?
Keep the faith. Because you know they are your favorite band.
