Red Elvises at the Continental Club
Austin, Texas
April 17th, 2004
By Karen
Now I'm sitting in the Continental Club in Austin. It's April 17th.
I'm (im)patiently waiting to see the Red Elvises again. This time,
I've brought my boyfriend, Jonathan, and his sister and her husband.
I'm just as excited about seeing the Red Elvises again as I was the
first time. I'm also excited about introducing my friends to a live
RE show.
I approached this review with the same enthusiasm as the Jovita's review.
However, the Continental club was smaller, and more crowded, and I was on
a date, so I didn't take notes. Besides, what can I say that I haven't
already said? The Red Elvises are great live!!
They played almost the same play list, with enough variation that it
wasn't like seeing the same show. I did feel however, that the sound
was better at Jovita's, but that was the venue, not the band.
Don't get me wrong though. The show was still fantastic. Everyone
were on their feet. When they did "I Wanna See You Bellydance", they
pulled a bunch of girls on stage to bellydance. (I was in the back
this time, so I didn't do it). The show was just as amazing as the
Jovita's show.
Sandra and Paul were there, still helping out. Some things were the
same...Igor and his crazy kicks, Oleg and his grin, Craig banging
away at the drums with unmatched stamina, Roman, amazing on the sax,
and shy Sasha.
Igor announced that the next night they would be in Houston and encouraged
everyone to drive to Houston to see them. He added "If you don't have a
car, go buy one and drive to Houston to see us." I wish I could have.
Again, I say they are GREAT live, and I will go see them every chance I get.
I don't believe they could ever put on a bad show. My friends had a great
time too, and we are all ready to see them again in November.
I only got to speak to Igor and Craig this time. I was waiting to buy the
"Rokenrol" CD and Craig walked by, looking at me, then came back and said
"you look familiar." I told him I'd been at Jovita's with my son, and he
remembered us. Then Igor was walking through the crown at their break,
and saw me, and grabbed my hand and asked where my boy was. Then he asked
why I wasn't up at the front dancing again, that it wasn't the same without
me. Later, when I told Alex that Igor asked about him, he thought that was
"way cool!"
That's what the Red Elvises are--way cool. They love what they do and it
comes out when they play. They are excellent musicians, great showmen,
and just plain nice guys.
Keep up the great work guys!!
