Fan of the Month!
Interviewed by Kayt

For our Fan of the Month this time we go all the way to Florida to check in with Lori, who doesn't let a little thing like distance get in the way of her seeing Red Elvises. Last year, after seeing them in Tampa, she enjoyed them so much that she went all the way to New Orleans just to see them again, not to mention traveling to New York! And now, February 2004's Fan of the Month...

For the record, what is your name?
Lori Lamison

Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
I was born in a scary little town in NY called Amityville…. I lived a few blocks away from the Amityville Horror house, which made for great Halloween stories. I grew up on Long Island NY, Moved to Manhattan for a while.. Been in Tampa, FL for about 9 years.

What were your main interests, entertainment and otherwise, growing up? Any obsessions you don’t mind people knowing about?
I started going to concerts/clubs at an early age. At 17 I was known as a “regular” to most of the door men at the good clubs in the city.

Tell us about your musical endeavors and any musical instruments you play…
I played classical violin for 6 years. Back in the day I was actually pretty good. Recently I picked one up at a music store and I was able to play after all these years.. I thought it sounded pretty good, but people in the store said it was an interesting version of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” At that point I was asked to stop playing.

What accomplishments are you most proud of at this point in your life?
I am most proud of how I am raising my beautiful 4-year-old daughter, Emma. She is the light of my life! She loves the Red Elvises and she’s always proud to sing “Is everybody happy” at the beginning of “Red Lips, Red Eyes, Red Stockings.”

What are your favorite movies?
I love any movie with Will Ferrell in it. My other favorites are “Pulp Fiction,” “Sixteen Candles….”

What music are you into, in addition to Red Elvises?
I love 80’s new wave. Not the trendy songs, the obscure B-sides.

When, where, how, etc. did you first hear and experience Red Elvises?
I remember seeing the CD “Belly Dance” at a friend’s house and I asked what they were all about. They [friends] insisted that I listen to the CD, and I fell in love ever since.

About how many times have you seen them?
10, but promised myself when they come to FL in 2004, I’m taking time off work and I will pack up my car and see every show.

What is it about Red Elvises that draws you to them, that you like the most?
Besides the handsome men in classy attire??? And the way Oleg grins and moves his eyebrows? Oh, then it’s definitely the music…. And the fact that they put on a great show.

What’s the farthest you’ve traveled to see them? And do you have a good story around that?
NYC…… that’s like 2,000 miles… Do I win a prize? [Interviewer’s note: Well, no, but it’s right up there in the long distance arena… I once traveled 3,000+ miles and someone I know traveled a little over 2,700 miles twice, from Canada to Florida. But 2,000 is still really amazing!!]

Which show is your favorite out of all the RE shows you've seen?
My absolute favorite was a recent show at Skippers Smokehouse. I hung out after the show and got to hang out with the guys. Did some roadie work and surprised them all by carrying out Adam's bass drum. That thing is HEAVY!

Any other standout, all time great memories of shows you’ve seen so far?
My first show… I was late.. walked into the show and found myself at the front of the stage near Oleg. He gave one of his cheesy smiles, you know the one.. .with the eyebrows, and a wink…

What are your favorite Red Elvises songs?
I love all the songs, but my top favorites are “Hanky Panky Kind of Love,” “Boogie on the Beach” and “Sad Cowboy Song.”

What would you like to see them do in the future? Any ideas? Anything you’d like to say to the band?
What do you think about a “Red Elvis-palooza?????”

Okay, last question… Do you have anything you’d especially like to say to all the fans?
Just to keep supporting the band! Also to Chris in Orlando… You da MAN!
