Fan of the Month!
Interviewed by Kayt
This month we have our first international Fan of the Month as we go to
Canada to hear from a very loyal fan who has traveled nearly 3,000 miles to see Red Elvises!
For the record, what is your name?
Larry Sheffer
Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and here I have lived ever since.
What were your main interests, entertainment and otherwise,
growing up? Any obsessions you don’t mind people knowing about?
My main interests have always been golf and music – they are clearly obsessions!
Tell us about your musical endeavors and any musical instruments you play.
Sorry, no abilities whatsoever musically.
What accomplishments are you most proud of at this point in your life?
My family, 4 grandchildren, my friends, my career, ability to golf, my music collection
(about 1200 CDs, 400 albums, 400 45s and now MP3s).
What are your favorite movies?
Princess Bride, Dirty Dancing – must be time to watch them again!
Do you have any favorite books?
Nope – my time is spent reading what’s on the computer monitor.
What music are you into, in addition to Red Elvises?
Most all eras of rock, some blues, lots of country (that is more recent).
When, where, how, etc. did you first hear and experience Red Elvises?
My sister from the Vancouver area brought me I Wanna See You Bellydance – loved it
right away. I have all of the CD’s except the newest – hasn’t ever been released here.
We flew to Orlando and saw the band at Pleasure Island in 1998 and then twice at Universal
Studios in 2000.
How many times have you seen them?
Based on the foregoing, that would be three times – doesn’t sound like many, but it is
2,800 miles from here to Florida.
What is it about Red Elvises that draws you to them, that you like the most?
They have fun – their unique sound is very catchy.
What’s the furthest you’ve traveled to see them? And do you have good story around that?
Orlando from here is 2,800 miles. Seeing them while were there was one of the highlights of our
trip. It also gave us a chance to tag up with Kayt Owens – yes, we met her and her Mom there for
lunch in 2000. Kayt is a story unto herself – she can tell you our story some time when she does
an article. [Kayt’s note: “Ah gee, thanks! I very much enjoyed meeting Larry and his wife too!”]
Any other standout, all time great memories of shows you’ve seen so far?
We chatted a couple of times with Avi at Universal. He took the time on a break to yak with us,
even though he was very sick at the time. We miss him.
What are your favorite Red Elvises songs?
"Red Lips Red Eyes Red Stockings" and "I Wanna See You Bellydance." They are the ones that got
us hooked.
What would you like to see them do in the future? Any ideas?
Come play here, soon! [And on Zhenya’s departure:] at least the spirit of the band remains -
hope they stick it out and grow as a group.
Okay, last question…Do you have anything you’d especially like to say to all the fans?
Live for today!
