Fan of the Month!
Interview conducted via email by Ealasaid
For the record, what is your name?
Jibbs!
Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
I was born in the little town of Bethlehem and then
moved to the middle of nowhere.
What were your main interests, entertainment and
otherwise, growing up?
Any obsessions you don't mind people knowing about?
I had a crush on Indiana Jones for the longest time.
Tell us about your musical endeavors and any musical
instruments you play...
I play everything. From bassoon to tuba to
tambourine.
What accomplishments are you most proud of at this
point in you life?
I recently got cast as a smelly old man in my
university's production of "A Funny Thing Happened on
the Way to the Forum."
What are your favorite movies?
There's this Swedish film about Picasso that's in
about 10 different languages- just sort of hops from
Portuguese to German to English, you don't have to
understand any of them, it's still funny as hell. I
saw it while bumming around Europe and haven't been
able to find a copy since. I think it translates to
"Adventures of Picasso" or something like that, but it
also features this psycho lady as Gertrude Stein and
just about every famous artist and writer from that
time period. If anyone can get me a copy I'll love
them forever...
Do you have any favorite books?
If you see anything at your local bookstore written by
MaryRose Merkel, buy it. (no, I haven't actually
written anything yet. But it doesn't hurt to start
shameless self promotion early.)
What music are you into, in addition to Red Elvises?
Many talented little bands. Jump Little Children, The
Arrogant Worms, Roy Zimmerman, Moxy Fruvous.
When, where, how, etc. did you first hear and
experience the Red Elvises
Musikfest. It was an accident actually, they were
being nice and filling in for some ska band that
didn't show. There was just something about the way
Oleg rolled his R's that made us stay...
About how many times have you seen them?
I dunno. It's never enough.
What is it about the Red Elvises that draws you to
them, that you like
the most?
Their charisma. Or maybe their naughty bottoms.
Perhaps their cool shoes?
What's the furthest you've traveled to see them? And
do you have a good
story around that?
I tried to make it to their shows in Moscow the other
year but I needed papers from my exchange program and
sadly I couldn't get them.
Any other standout, all time great memories of shows
you've seen so far?
Igor doing a pirouette from the scaffolding during
Blue Moon at Musikfest. Oleg's eyebrows. Avi's
leather pants. Running around backstage with the
other chicks who were supposed to be selling T-shirts
but were really taking photos of Zhenya's butt.
What are your favorite Red Elvises songs?
Scorchie Chornie.
What would you like to see them do in the future?
Any ideas?
I'll just smile and censor any naughty thoughts I may
be having right now for you.
Okay, last question...do you have anything you'd
especially like to say
to all the fans?
TAKE YOUR CLOTHES OFF!
