Fan of the Month: Christina Jamerson
Interviewed via email by Ealasaid
Q: Name?
Christina Jamerson, also Red Princess.
Q: Brief history of your life - where born, grew up, etc.
I was born in Montclair,
California to a mom and dad and two brothers. I moved to Myrtle Creek, Oregon when
I was four and now live in Eugene, Oregon as a University of Oregon student.
Q: Main interests growing up? Any obsessions you don't mind
sharing?
Obsessions? Well then, one is simple-our Russian boys, what else? That of
course leads into Six String Samurai, which is a big thing with me. Also I am
quite a basket case when it comes to Moulin Rouge. We're talking nine times in the
theater over the course of a month and a half. I can't count how many times I have
heard the soundtrack. Other interests/bordering on obsessions are dancing(specifically
Argentine tango), theater, and spending time with friends, particularly my boy Chris.
Q: Do you play a musical instrument?
I play both African and Irish drums (djembe and
bodhran), although not very frequently anymore and not really well. I have dabbled
in acoustic guitar, but my brother borrowed mine from me about three years ago. It
has yet to resurface and catch my attention.
Q: What accomplishment(s) are you most proud of at this moment in
your life?
I am currently directing a series of three short plays through our
university theater. As a theater major particulalry interested in directing, this
is a very exciting thing for me. I am also proud of the fact that I am going to school
on all scholarships. Yay for not paying back money!
Q: Favorite movie(s)?
See above in "obsessions"
Q: Favorite book(s)?
Phantom by Susan Kay. Another obsession I have is Phantom of the
Opera. This book takes the story to the next level and does a history of the Erik's
(the Phantom) family and upbringing.
Q: What music do you like, besides the Red Elvises?
I love tango music, for example Astor
Piazzola, Tarkan (a very cool Turkish pop musician), disco, swing, alternative, techno,
pretty much everything but country and some hip hop.
Q: When/where/how did you first hear/experience the Red Elvises?
Halloween of 2000. My friends were going to parties, I was going to my first Red Elvis show. I had seen a poster up the guys earlier that month and thought, "Hey, I have heard of them before. I should check it out." I did. I fell on love. It was a great experience. Oleg is such a flirt; he makes any young women feel welcome ;)
Q: How many times have you seen the Elvises in concert? What's the
farthest you've ever driven to see them?
I have seen them 3 times, all here in Eugene. As I don't have a car, it is difficult for me to get other places. I almost went to Bumbershoot but didn't have the money to get there and stay for a few days.
Q: Why the Elvises? What is it about them that makes you such a fan?
They are so entertaining and talented. They make you feel welcome: last time I went to see them Zhenya just walked up to me during their break and started a conversation. It is cool that they are so friendly with everyone, even when you know they have got to be absolutely exhausted.
Q: Do you have any rituals/traditions around seeing the Elvises?
Generally pushing my way up to the front and center of the stage and interacting with them. I love it!
Q: Best moment at a Red Elvises show?
Probably my second show when I was getting sexy Russian pelvises and asses shaken in my face like their was no tomorrow. Also at the same show when Zhenya used my hand to play a note on his guitar.
Q: What would you like to see the Elvises do in the future?
I would be very interested to see Oleg do a solo album. The others have, why not?
Q: Last one: Do you have anything you'd especially like to say to your fellow fans?
Keep following these guys, they are well worth it! Support them so they can keep bringing
us kickass rokenrol.
