EMERGENCY BULLETIN: Ya Wanna hear the Red Elvises on the Radio?
...I thought so!

Issued by Rachel Romond

KCRW 89.9 is the public radio station out of Santa Monica, arguably the best thing on the radio in LA. The show "Morning Becomes Eclectic" is particularly nifty. It’s on every weekday from 9am - noon. The KCRW newsletter describes MBE as "progressive pop, international, jazz, and classical music, with in-studio interviews and live performances". They feature artists from Me'shell Ndegeocello to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and often showcase new up-and-comers. This is where Beck made his radio debut. I cannot say enough about how much this show rocks. The station has its act so together that they archive most of the shows on their web page AND simulcast their broadcast 24 hours a day over the internet, so this is not just a Los Angeles thing.

So, here's the big idea: The Elvises would be *perfect* for Morning Becomes Eclectic. As a public radio station, KCRW depends on listeners for its continued quality and existence, and they are generally responsive to suggestions and feedback. So let’s write to the station to get the band on the air as guests. For you poor people who have never heard of MBE, you can check out archived shows at www.kcrw.org, then you can write gushing e-mails saying how great and wonderful and cool the Elvises are, overflowing the KCRW mail server 'till the station is forced to put them on the air. This will be just the first step toward

TOTAL WORLD DOMINATION! Bwahahahaha!

Sorry. I'm better now.

Anyway, here's the pertinent shite:

the KCRW website: www.kcrw.org
the MBE host: Nic Harcourt
the MBE producer: Ariana Morgenstern
the MBE e-mail address: mbe@kcrw.org
the KCRW mailing address:
KCRW / 1900 Pico Blvd. / Santa Monica, CA 90405

And here’s a sample letter of harassment:

Dear Ms. Morgenstern,

I am an avid listener / a recent convert / a rabid fan / give you lots of money, and I would like to make a suggestion to Morning Becomes Eclectic.

If you've been in Santa Monica for long, you have to have heard of the Red Elvises. They are a really talented and incredible group with a very loyal following. [-Insert gushing description here-] The best thing about this band is [-Tell why they’re so dang cool-] . If not for their music, then definitely for their [-see above-], I think Morning Becomes Eclectic should try very hard to get them on the show. Please please oh please get them on the air, because a band with song titles like

[-Insert favorite funky song titles here-] deserves to be heard by everyone who likes music. You can listen to clips of some of their songs and find contact information on their website: www.redelvises.com.

Please have the Red Elvises on the show, because I think that MBE listeners would really enjoy hearing them.

Thanks,

Mary Sue / Joe Fan
avid listener / recent convert / rabid fan / maker of generous monetary donations

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to call, e-mail, or write to Morning Becomes Eclectic at KCRW, and bug the crap out of them until they agree to have the Red Elvises on as guests. Once they do, they won’t be sorry. You know it. I know it. We just have to make them know it.

Happy Haunting!
